Granted I've idled much more on DA due to personal reasons and haven't posted as much. I usually end up doing more of a technical assist so artists can do art...with well less technical hassles.
One artist that used to talk with me quite a bit, and even followed me on LJ at Anime Expo kind of blew me off or just honestly doesn't remember me or something...but it did feel like there was ...and unwelcome attitude at the Artist's Alley. I'm not exactly mad about it, but maybe thinking "Well that was weird and awkward" I usually kind of run from the tables because there are too many ...babbling fanboy/fangirlish conversations and I just am more like "hey wanna go out to eat later, my treat?" This is more due to the fact I find sitting at a table with good food and stuffing your face gets you to relax and be yourself more than worrying about running out of prints, if someone will buy a print/product and being overcrowded by customers, or crazy fans... (let's not forget when bodies are in close contact and it gets hot...the smells).
I guess it's also odd that the person has become heavily influenced from

's stuff now to

in fact, when I wandered by the tablets some customers were confused and actually confused her for Emily. When I purchased the sktechbook, and showed it to other friends they also thought...uhh that looks like Emily's stuff.
Which, if any of you who are attending want to do this look for the light skinned fat black girl with the curly hair and black jeans (my badge also has my user name). Sunday is when we'll be going out. We'd do it today but I found out the place I want to attend to is closed for the 4th.
I guess my problem with the Artist's alley again is just too many prints and not enough portfolio or wallspace. I wish they'd sell CD ROM collections or sketchbooks. The thing about CD Rom collections is I don't even care if it has a pretty label. A collection of sketches and stuff you don't post up on the site and it's mostly for the con is fine with me. They don't have to be really high res either if you're worried about reposts (watermark them though please). I know people go for fanart of various characters but there's people like me that want to see what the artist can actually do too.
It was actually kind of cool to bump into Long Vo at Udon it's been such a long time since I've seen or talked with him...not that we met personally much (I think the last time was when they came down to Torrance when there was that huge bookstore at the Mitsua (formerly Yaohan). I got to meet Saka, Long Vo, Charles and gang from the old Fanart Headquarters and various groups that sprung from a love of artists that just like doing anime style.
The other thing that bothered me at Anime Expo is they can't seem to dedicate an Artist's Jam for people. I don't get why they had the Mixer only for the Artist's Alley people on Thursday and not allow other artists to mingle. Granted there will be moochers...but so many video rooms for anime that's like 5 years old, and a room that was only 1/3 full when I was there was a "no" to other patrons who are also artists? We all can't be at the Artist's Alley table...so what's the deal?
Then of course the other event ...The last Unicorn Panel was canceled...k...
This year my purse strings are tighter too. I's not that I don't want to buy stuff. It's that a lot of stuff isn't exactly new that I WANT to buy. I don't really use Copics - since I'm a Tria markers person - and a lot of my stuff is digital (though I do work traditionally too but more paints than markers). Most of the Artbooks I've seen. I was happy to get the Darkstalkers Tribute book but...honestly some of the entries they let in kinda make me scratch my head, but for the most part it was a pretty good book.
Too bad Wacom and DA were last year, because this would have been a good year for Wacom to demo their intuos4 tablets for artists. It's hard to tell people how good these tablets are because most haven't touched it and just know by word of mouth. I own an intuos 3 and 4 and I can definitely feel the diff between the two and I won't touch a graphire because it feels like a toy compared to an intuos. I'd also like to try the smaller Cintiq...but oh well.
I'll be headed back again for the last two days and like I said ...it would definitely be cool if some of you want to hang out on Sunday to go to Little Tokyo for some food. I'll probably look for some artists to commission too.
